Horticultural Society supports local community groups

The Uplyme and Lyme Regis Horticultural Society has donated £1,300 to two local community groups, with money raised from the Society’s summer flower and produce fair.

The two groups to benefit were the Woodroffe School Gardening Club in Lyme Regis and the Flamingo Community Pool Jubilee Project in Axminster. The donations were announced at the Society’s Autumn Show held at Uplyme Village Hall on October 7th.

Jim Johnson-Hills accepted a £300 donation to the Woodroffe School Gardening Club, saying that the money would cover “immediate purchases including onion sets and garlic bulbs, oyster mushroom grain spawn and growing bags plus a decent amount of spring and early summer bulbs.” The Society actively supports the gardening club and has previously provided money for tools and equipment, and trees for a school orchard.

Rachel Jordan, one of the Flamingo Pool’s trustees, accepted a £1,000 donation and encouraged all those present to make use of the pool, which has a main swimming pool and a hydrotherapy pool. The Jubilee Project is raising £250,000 to install renewable and sustainable energy sources to keep the pools running as economically and efficiently as possible while minimising environmental impact.
